Mudeford Quay is situated at the entrance to Christchurch Harbour and has plenty going on, as well as spectacular views. Mudeford is a central point of the local fishing industry and is the perfect location for a fun day out.
There’s a lot to see at the Quay with fishing boats, wind surfers, kayaks and local wildlife coming and going into Christchurch. During the summer this is also a fantastic place to watch the sunset or sit and enjoy a drink in the sunshine. There’s the popular RNLI lifeboat station, featured in the programme ‘Saving Lives at Sea’ as you walk around the Quay. When it comes to planning days out in Dorset, this is a great location to spend some time at.
One of the most treasured activities at Mudeford Quay is crabbing, the Quay wall is the perfect place to sit and catch some crabs – make sure you bring a crabbing line, some bait and a bucked filled with sea water though!
Both Avon beach and Friars beach are easily accessed from the Quay via Gundimore Promenade where you can explore more beautiful UK beaches. Avon Beach is a stunning sandy beach and has the coveted Blue Flag award and is a favourite for families and locals. The beach is renowned for its fresh fish restaurants, so make sure you check out The Noisy Lobster directly on Avon Beach, a wonderful place to take a load off and enjoy local sourced produce or take away your favourite fish and chip dish.
Friars beach is a slightly quieter beach to Avon where beach huts line the promenade and are available for hire.
If you are looking for more of an evening gathering or an event with that sea view twist, we recommend the Christchurch Harbour Hotel, which sits in between Mudeford Quay and Avon Beach. Christchurch Harbour Hotel & Spa is a relaxed coastal spa retreat, set against the backdrop of spectacular Harbour views. This hidden gem is a place to drift away for days of great local food, luxurious pampering and exploring the stunning Dorset coastline.
Mudeford is truly one of the Dorset coast’s hidden gems. In winter or summer it always delivers and if you do get a chance to go down you won’t be disappointed.
