Business Profile

A unique opportunity has arisen for an extremely special and unique experience.  You can be one of a small exclusive group of just 14 guests witnessing orphaned elephants being re-introduced by the orphanage to a wild herd in Kenya’s Tsavo National Park, hosted by Giles Clark who has filmed this very thing for the BBC.

This will take place over a 4 day trip for just 7 couples, from 3rd – 7th October staying in the wilderness at a private luxury camp called Ithumba which is owned by the David Sheldrick Elephant Charity, and can only be hired in its entirety for exclusive use.  Their orphanage is in Nairobi and we will have the chance to visit the baby elephants in private on our first day in Kenya, Tuesday 3rd October.

On Wednesday (4th) we will travel by private charter down to the airstrip in Tsavo and spend three nights, four hosted days at Ithumba before our aircraft takes us up to the Mara for the start of the our eleventh Celebration of African Wildlife, at Little Governors Camp which will be ours privately for the week.

At Ithumba a number of baby elephants from the orphanage will be corralled into a large open pen where they will be experiencing their first taste of being re-introduced to the wild.  And here is the amazing and unique part – which is such a privilege to witness and be a part of:  By the time we arrive, the babies will have been at Ithumba for a couple of days and in that time somehow the wild herd that they are destined to join will be aware of their arrival and members of the herd will have come to the corral.

These older elephants – and some of the young ones – recognise each other from their shared time at the orphanage.  They run to each other trumpeting, with ears flapping, in this heart touching greeting where they wrap their trunks around each other in a show of genuine delight in being reacquainted. We will be able to interact with the orphans, playing with them, stroking them and getting as close to wild elephants as it is possible and safe to do.

The 11th Celebration of African Wildlife and Tribal Life: October 7th -13th 2017

Set in the Masai Mara which teems with plains game, and where we have seen the ‘Big 5’ all in one morning, our signature African safari is now recognised around the world as one of the leading showcases for wildlife and conservation.
We stage the event in early October to be sure of seeing some spectacular river crossings as the great migration heads back from the Mara to the Serengeti.

You will be part of a unique safari week with world renowned wildlife hosts escorting you on adrenalin fuelled game drives, giving enthralling private workshops and fascinating pre dinner illustrated talks.  We  have more hosts than ever before, making this unique event even more special as guests have more time in the company of wildlife celebrities respected by their peers the world over.  Of course there will be time to relax too, just lazing on the terrace of your luxury tent overlooking the birdlife and probably an elephant or two at the waterhole.

The staples of comfort in the wilderness are still mainstays of our week – spacious en suite luxury safari tents located around a beautiful marsh which attracts dozens of animals and scores of birds, comfy beds, hot water whenever you need it, flushing loos, a good selection of wines spirits and beer, choices at every meal, enough food to satisfy the appetite of a lion and a lively bar and camp fire around which to exchange the latest safari stories.
